Dashboard UX
The Dashboard is the top level view provided to every user of the oVirt Management application.
Over time the dashboard should evolve into a sophisticated overview of the resources available to a given user. ONe possibility is for the dashboard to evolve into a flexible portal-type page with several sub-sections which should be configurable by each user. Users would expect to see sections for:
- alerts/notifications
- task list
- user preferences/profiles
Task List
(Jan 2008) Recent builds feature a refactored task list functionality to allow for the dashboard-level task list. The dashboard task list shows all tasks initiated by the logged-in user, and is filterable by task type and state. The re-design makes it more evident how the list is filtered. As the user selects different filters, the menu labels 'stick' to indicate selection.
Using icons to indicate task State
Using icons to indicate task status is more efficient and attractive. Each state icon should include ALT and a mouse-over hover tip that gives the text label that the image is replacing. Alphabetic sorting on this column should work the same as if the images were text.
Additional changes that would improve usability
- Better experience when there are no tasks to display
- Re-order, reconsider, or consolidate some of the columns
